Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War
Taylor-Wilson Camp #10
Present: 9 members, 2 guests - at Depot Grille
1. The meeting was called to order by Comdr. Mark Day with pledge of allegiance and prayer.
2. Kevin Shroyer, Patriotic Instructor, gave part of Edward Everett’s 2 hour oration which preceded President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. Both commemorated the dead.
3. Treasurer reports current balance of $4726.25; $4227.66 is earmarked for POW monument leaving balance of $498.59 in the discretionary fund. The Camp Council audited the books.
4. Secretary minutes of 9/4/2008 approved.
5. Dr. Potter gave a report on marking Union veterans’ graves. Pvt. Furgason’s grave in the Confederate Cemetery has been remarked.
6. The POW Monument campaign was discussed. Cong. Goodlatte has been helpful to start the search for federal funds with National Park Service.
7. Centerfest in Bedford was rained out; no report.
8. Kenny Rowlette told of the LU Civil War program on the “Reel Civil War” for 3/27-28. Dance to be held on 3/28. Second Carolina String Band to play for the dance.
9. Comdr. Day has started a new WEB page www.taylorwilsonsuv.com .
10. Christmas Parade on Dec. 6th and T-W Camp will guard Santa since he is from the North Pole.
11. Dues were discussed for 2009. They will remain the same at $35. A hat passing at each meeting for any special projects.
12. Amherst farm has potential as site for re-enactment of Battle of Lynchburg for 2010 & 2012.
13. Remembrance Day is Nov. 22 in Gettysburg, PA and several of our Camp attending.
14. Discussion of contributing to 11th VA to help preserve their battle flag. More information needed in writing before decision to contribute.
